Existing and qualified MOT testers must complete annual training and pass an MOT annual assessment between April and March every year to remain compliant and avoid being suspended from testing. This includes:
-A minimum of 3 hours training must be completed every year. Over a 5 year period, 16 hours must be completed. Hence 1 year of your 5 must include 4 hours of training.
-All training should be recorded
-You MUST record your assessment results on the MOT Testing System to ensure that you are not suspended on the 1st April.
NB: If you qualified after 1 May 2020, you do not need to start training or do your annual assessment until after 1 April 2021.
Changes to Annual Training & Assessment
Over the passed few years, the pass mark has increased yearly, 50% to 60% for the year 2017-2018, 70% for 2018-2019. The pass mark for May 2020 to March 2021 is 80%. For more information on keeping compliant, please visit the DVSA – Annual Assesment
